What is an oBook? An oBook is a compact, abstract way to represent a readable book. In an oBook, ordinary url's are used to point to oStories that can exist anywhere on the web and any site that currently hosts stories in html (or any other web technology) can easily make oStory versions available with no visible change to the web browsable version (see How can I oPublish for details on this). The oReader program allows you to both build oBooks from live oStories on the web and convert them to readable PDF eBooks. The oBook idea is called reader-centric publishing because it's the reader who picks the titles, orders them as they like and defines how the final eBook will look. As you can see below, the oBook contains no information on how to create the eBook, only which oStories to include and in what order to put them. The oReader program let's the reader choose the font face & size to use as well as set the margins & page sizes and automatically generates a Table of Contents with hyperlinks to the original online stories. ![]() Here are two example eBooks created from the oBook above: |
